Coast Guard units in Mahdia retrieved nine bodies from the sea on Monday, spokesman for the Mahdia and Monastir courts, Farid Ben Jha told TAP.
He added that seven of the bodies, which were in a state of decomposition, were recovered off Chebba beach and two off Salakta beach.
They were taken to Tahar Safar University Hospital for the necessary procedures and identification after being subjected to genetic analyses, he said.
The court spokesman said that an investigation has been opened to find out the circumstances of the deaths of these victims and the investigating judge has undertaken to investigate this matter.
