Maronite Patriarch, Bechara Boutros Rahi, said on Friday that the measures taken by President Michel Aoun, the government, and the constitutional institutions, have strengthened international confidence in Lebanon, "which despite its small size has remained a stabilizing factor and a meeting point in the region."
The Patriarch called on the Lebanese to work hand-in-hand to provide the country with political, security, social, and economic stability.
The Maronite Patriarch's words came after a visit to Baabda Palace on Friday, attended by new Patriarchal Vicar, Archbishop Rafik Al-Warsha, and Director of the Maronite Patriarchate's Media and Protocol department, Walid Ghayad.
During a closed meeting between President Aoun and Patriarch Rahi, the pair reviewed the general situation in the country, current political developments, as well as the situation of the educational sector and educational institutions.
Separately, Aoun welcomed a delegation of the Lebanese-Saudi Business Council, Raouf Abou Zaki.
"Lebanese-Saudi relations have returned to their positive nature," the President told his visiting delegation. "Nothing can shake the rigid relations between the two countries," he added.
The delegation also discussed with Aoun preparations underway for the Lebanese economic delegation's visit to Saudi Arabia in April, as well as the "Saudi-Lebanese Economic Forum" to be held in Beirut in 2018.
"We are open to all forms of joint cooperation, whether economic or developmental. We are ready to provide the best conditions for such cooperation," the President confirmed.
At the diplomatic level, President Aoun welcomed Georgian Ambassador to Lebanon Gregory Tabatadze, accompanied by Honorary Consul of Georgia, Marcel David Khuzami, marking the end of Tabatadze's diplomatic mission in Lebanon after serving four years as Goergia's Ambassador to Lebanon.
President Aoun wished the Georgian ambassador "success in his new duties in the Georgian Foreign Ministry," thanking him "for his efforts to strengthen relations between the two countries."
