Maronite Patriarch Bechara Rahi presided over Sunday Mass service at the Patriarchate's summer seat in Diman.
During the sermon, the Patriarch said that most of politicians do not show responsibility for the demands and needs of the people, but rather search for their personal interests and narrow calculations.
"Lebanese politicians will deprive Lebanon of the trust of the Arab and international communities, despite the conviction of these countries of the importance of Lebanon's role, potentials and capabilities of its people."
Rahi added: "It seems that politicians want to hide their responsibility to empty the state treasury, and not to undertake any reform in the structures and sectors, as requested by the "CEDAR" conference hosted by France to support the process of economic development in Lebanon."
He also warned of massive protests after the gradual rise in the level of poverty, unemployment, corruption and public debt.
In this context, the Prelate called on friendly countries to accelerate assistance to Lebanon, and urged the United Nations to work to restore Lebanon's independence and unity, implement international resolutions, and declare its neutrality.
He then appealed to President of the Republic, Michel Aoun, to work to lift the siege on legality and free national decision.
