Speaker of the House, Nabih Berri, maintained that Lebanon was vigorously fighting money laundering and terrorist funding, during his meeting with Marshall Billingslea, the Assistant Secretary for Terrorist Financing at the U.S. Department of the Treasury, at Ain-el-Tineh on Tuesday.
"The laws endorsed by the Lebanese Parliament have made Lebanon a state that complies with the highest international legal standards, in terms of money transfer, and fighting money laundering and terrorist financing," Berri told his guest.
For his part, the US official hailed the performance of the Lebanese Central Bank and all the Lebanese banks.
Moreover, Berri broached during the meeting the possibility of adopting the model followed in a number of American states and European countries, in terms of legalizing cannabis growing in Lebanon for medical purposes.
US Ambassador to Lebanon, Elizabeth Richard, attended the meeting.
