President Michel Aoun on Tuesday welcomed Acting President of the General Labor Confederation (GLC), Hassan Fakih, who handed him a memo capitalizing on the accuracy of the prevailing stage.
The memo also supports the right of citizens to demonstrate and stage sit-ins in public squares; however, it snubbed attempts to block roads and prevent citizens from commuting -- deeming this contrary to the provision of the Human Rights Charter.
"The GLC calls upon all those concerned, especially Your Excellency, to expedite the formation of a new government that preserves the constitution, adopts national constants, respects political diversity, and meets the legitimate and rightful interests of the popular groups of workers, farmers, professors, teachers, students, women, etc," the GLC's memo said.
The memo also deplored the chaotic pricing of local and imported products at the absence of state control; it also rebuffed the continuous attempts to blackmail citizens with fuels, bread, medicine, and even hospital beds.
"This forces the state to confront monopolies and resort to importing fuel, wheat, and medicine directly on state-to-state basis, not through exclusive agencies, so as to provide food and health security for citizens."
The GLC's memo warned as well from the continuation of strikes and the disruption of schools fearing that this might lead to the loss of the entire scholastic.
