Kim and Kanye Name Their Newborn Baby Chicago
Since Kim Kardashian West and Kanye West welcomed their new baby girl four days ago, born via surrogate, fans have waited with baited breath for a name announcement.
But despite the rumours that Kim and Kanye were considering names like Wild or Louis Vuitton for the newest addition to their family, the couple has just announced they’ve decided on Chicago West.
The new moniker is simple and sentimental, as Kanye was born and raised in the city - and many people love their choice.
Announcing the name on her Twitter account, Kim K’s post has already received over 45,000 likes - with hundreds of fans tweeting well-wishes to the happy family.
However, because this is the Kardashians, people had lots of opinions on the new name - and some weren’t fans. And it appears people already had questions about the pronunciation of baby Chicago's name - prompting Kim to retweet a tweet explaining that the name is actually pronounced like “Chai,” rhyming with shy, and not like “Chee.”
Khloe Kardashian also jumped to her sister’s aid - tweeting: "I love her name. Hey Chi (shy)"
While the newest Kardashian’s name may be uncommon, the West’s are no strangers to choosing unlikely baby names.
When the couple previously announced the names of their other children, North and Saint, they faced similar backlash for their uncommon choices.
However, with their newest choice, Chicago, the West's have broken their own baby naming rules, which Kim previously described to Ellen DeGeneres as “Short, easy to spell, one syllable.”
But although baby Chi’s name may be out there, it will no doubt rise in popularity since the announcement - just as the names Saint and North did.
Welcome to the world, baby Chi!
