For the second time in three years, Beirut River has been tainted in red due to massive pollutants that pour in it emanating from factories around the city.
Several pictures went viral on social media showing the blood red color of the river, which caught the attention of passersby.
In an interview with al-Akhbar daily, Environment Minister Mohammad al-Mashnouk's advisor Ghassan Sayyah said that the ministry tasked an environmental team presided by ministry official Bassam Sabbagh to the area in order to examine the water, to determine its composition and whether it contained dangerous pollutants.
It is worth noting that the same incident took place on February 15, 2012, and it was later revealed that the water pouring into Beirut River was mixed with a dye dumped by a nearby factory and the coloration of the water was deemed as safe.
