Former Prime Minister Saad Hariri held talks with French President Francois Hollande in Paris Tuesday, with talks reportedly featuring high on the French weapons purchase contract aimed for the ISF and paid for with the $1 billion Saudi grant.
The meeting reportedly focused on the Saudi grant as well, where the Lebanese Army and the French authorities came to an agreement that calls for delivering some weapons already available in storage, and going through with part of the $3 billion deal even without a Saudi signature.
A knowledgeable French source stated that the French are truly considering handing in weapons without a Saudi signature, while some are wondering if it would be better to wait.
A high ranking Elysée source stated that things are starting to shake up in regards to the initial grant and the $1 billion aid managed by Hariri, adding that not timeline has been set for the execution of the contract, and no statement has been made by the presidency regarding the nature of the talks and what was agreed upon.
"Hollande has shown the desire to adopt the delivery without a signature option," the source stated, adding that the only term would be including a part of the recent grant to the original $3 billion as well as paying for part of the merchandise so as to speed up the delivery process.
