Prime Minister, Hassan Diab, received on Monday afternoon at the Grand Serail the Chairwoman of the National Commission for Lebanese Women Affairs (NCLW) Claudine Aoun Roukoz, Vice President Nuwar Mawlawi Diab, and members: Faten Younes, Colette El-Hayek Massaad, Farida El-Rayess, Sossi Boladian, Maya Zaghrini, Martine Najem, Randa Abboud, May Makhzoumi, Mirine Maalouf Abi Chaker, Ghada Hamdan, Ghada Jumblatt, Rana Ghandour, and NCLW’s Media Officer Micheline Elias Massaad, on the occasion of the end of their missions’ term, which spanned over three years.

Aoun Roukoz presented to the Prime Minister the NCLW’s most remarkable programs and achievements, in addition to submitted proposals and draft laws, including amendments to law protecting women and other family members from domestic violence, amendments to the social security law, law relating to the crime of sexual harassment, law on determining the age of 18 years as a minimum age for marriage, and the law recognizing the right of Lebanese women to transfer their nationality to their children. She further stressed on the importance of adopting a unified Personal Status Law. 

Aoun Roukoz thanked on her own behalf and on behalf of the NCLW the government that has swiftly responded to the Commission’s demands in facing the Corona crisis. In fact, the government has taken rapid and effective actions, by adopting the principle of equality between women and men in the process of evacuating the Lebanese abroad and by adopting extraordinary measures to protect victims of domestic violence that have increased amidst general mobilization.

From his part, PM Diab welcomed the NCLW, reiterated his firm belief in and support for the role played by Lebanese woman and stressed the importance of activating her role within the executive and legislative authority, for her to engage in laws’ amendments and adoption. PM Diab expressed his strong support for the inclusion of women's quota in the electoral law, in order to allow women greater participation in political fields.
