In an issued statement on Sunday, former Prime Minister Najib Mikati saluted "the efforts made by the army, under the directives of General Joseph Aoun, to control the situation in Tripoli in wake of the recent unfortunate events," and called for "serious pursuit of security violators and those who exploit the just popular demands to sabotage the city."

He also commended the efforts exerted by the security forces to control security and stability in the city, and the coordination meeting that was held at the headquarters of the Northern Military Region that included senior security officials.

"In these difficult circumstances, the state must take care of Tripoli as per the requirements of duty and justice, so that the city can fully obtain its rights, especially to social benefits, similar to all regions," Mikati asserted.

"Tripoli will surpass yesterday's sorrow and its continuous sufferings thanks to its belief in God Almighty, the solidarity of its people, their insistence on a decent life, and their adherence to the choice of a single state that embraces all its citizens," Mikati concluded in his statement.
