President of the Republic, General Michel Aoun, met on Thursday with Interior Minister, Judge Bassam Mawlawi, and discussed with him the general situation in the country and the security situation.
The work of the directorates affiliated with the Interior Ministry was also deliberated.
The meeting also addressed with the issue of the upcoming parliamentary elections and the measures taken by the Ministry.
In addition, the discussion between President Aoun and Minister Mawlawi tackled the circumstances that accompanied the statements made by Information Minister, George Kordahi, before his appointment as a minister in the current government, and the reactions to these statements by brotherly countries
In this context, the President stressed "Lebanon's keenness, as president, government and people, to maintain the best relations with the brotherly Arab countries," noting that Minister Kordahi’s statements "were issued by him before his appointment, and therefore do not reflect the viewpoint of the Lebanese state, which is keen to do everything that contributes to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia standing by the people of Lebanon, especially in the current circumstances, knowing that the positions of any Lebanese political party may not be considered the positions of the Lebanese state and are dealt with on this basis”.
