EU ambassador Ralph Tarraf tweeted Monday morning on the occasion of the 78th Independence Day, saying: "Despite all the hardships, Lebanon celebrates its 78th Independence Day today. While imperfect at times, what has upheld its independence is its commitment and belief in democracy. Maintaining such democratic traditions is necessary, with elections held on schedule at its core."
