Caretaker Minister of National Defense, Maurice Sleem, on Wednesday received at his ministerial office MP Ghassan Hasbani, with whom he held a tour d’horizon on the current general situation in the country.
MP Hasbani underlined the role of the army in maintaining stability and safeguarding the country.
Caretaker Minister Sleem also received the British Ambassador to Lebanon, Hamish Cowell, accompanied by the Embassy’s Military Attaché, Colonel Lee Sanders.
Discussions reportedly touched on the Lebanese-British bilateral ties and the means to bolster them.
Ambassador Cowell affirmed Britain's permanent support and distinguished partnership with Lebanon, as well as its continued support for the Lebanese Army, especially in terms of strengthening the capabilities of the border regiments to combat cross-border smuggling.
Minister Sleem expressed appreciation for Britain's constant support in all fields, especially in terms of cooperation with the Lebanese Army and the exchange of experiences.
Separately, Sleem received the Ambassador of the Sultanate of Oman to Lebanon, Ahmed bin Mohammed bin Saeed Al Saidi, accompanied by the Deputy Head of Mission, Saeed bin Khalfan Al-Husseini, who came on an acquaintance visit.
Sleem highlighted the deep brotherly relations between Lebanon and the Sultanate of Oman, and thanked the Sultanate for its permanent support for Lebanon and its people. The Minister also hailed the existing cooperation between the two brotherly countries in all domains.
