In its weekly meeting, the Lebanese Kataeb politburo called for speeding up the cabinet formation process in order to rebuff the planned strategy aiming at keeping MP Tammam Salam as only a premier-designate "in order to keep the country without a cabinet by linking the formation process to other issues."
As for Sunday's quarrel that erupted between supporters and opponents of Hezbollah's involvement in Syria during a sit-in staged outside the Iranian Embassy in Beirut, the politburo urged for uncovering the perpetrator who killed the Lebanese Option Party member, Hashem Selman, regardless of his affiliations, noting that his voice and face were identified.
The Kataeb politburo voiced support for the deployment plan carried out by the Lebanese Army in Tripoli, deeming it as "a good start that need further improvement, until Tripoli becomes completely disarmed". The politburo also urged the city's officials and residents to embrace the military institution and steer clear of all seditious schemes.
The party condemned Hezbollah's 'blatant' involvement in Syria, which has become "a military interference, aiming to coercely drag Lebanon into the Syrian-Iranian axis, and a violation against both the state's sovereignty and the Baabda Declaration".
"Hezbollah's interference in Syria heralds the start of a long conflict with Arab and foreign countries and its repercussions have begun with the members of the Gulf Cooperation Council advising their citizens not to travel to Lebanon. It also harms the tourism season in the country,” the statement issued following the meeting said.
The Lebanese Kataeb politburo sounded the alarm over the exacerbating Syrian refugee influx "which has become a burden that Lebanon cannot bear", warning that the situation would spiral out if security sinks were to be established.
