Prime Minister-designate Tammam Salam stressed that he would adopt any formula that could lead to a "productive performance", noting that the foundations on which previous national unity and one-sided cabinets were based were "impaired and unfruitful".
"I hope for a Cabinet in which everyone participates, but if this isn't achieved, we can't disrupt the formation of the government forever," Sleiman said in remarks published by Assafir newspaper.
For his part, Salam said he would not wait indefinitely to form his Cabinet and urged the rival factions to help him in his mission.
"We need a government that is capable with its makeup of confronting political, economic and security challenges," Salam told the newspaper.
"But when I realize that it is impossible to reach consensus on a Cabinet formula, I will take the appropriate choice and will not wait indefinitely," he added.
Salam voiced his astonishment regarding the March 8 camp's irresponsiveness with the personal guarantee he had offered to refrain veto power demands.
"It is not easy for a prime minister to openly pledge to resign if ministers from a certain party do so. In such case, why shall I stay in an imbalanced government which would have lost the essence of its presence?", Salam said.
The PM-designate highlighted three availabe options: either to form a consensual cabinet that appeases both the Lebanese people and polical factions , to form a cabinet that satisfies only politicians or to step down.
