Until recently, Mia Khalifa had yet to become famous in Lebanon as many of her compatriots were still not aware that she is a well-known pornstar in the United States. Following the controversy that she lately sparked, Mia Khalifa must have become the most googled name in Lebanon.
The Lebanese-American girl was “powerful” enough to make the headlines in a country that is plagued by manifold, unparalleled phenomena.
She made the headlines in a country where usual winter showers are depicted as a “storm” that requires nationwide vigilance and exceptional measures.
She made the headlines in a country that is still struggling to elect a president.
She made the headlines in a country that has been battered by food safety scandals, while accountability is still no more than a far-fetched goal.
She made the headlines in a country where words speak louder than actions.
She made the headlines in a country that has been flooded by a tremendous number of refugees.
Mia Khalifa has caused controversy after she openly boasted a “career” that is covertly practiced by scores of girls in Lebanon.
Unsurprisingly, the Lebanese failed to agree on whether or not Khalifa offended her homeland by boasting her career success after she was picked as the most famous pornstar by some website.
While some deemed her “pride” as shameful and insulting, others defended the girl’s freedom and argued that she was not harming anyone.
The debate got off the rails after Khalifa had posted a photo showing phrases taken from the Lebanese national anthem tattooed on her arm.
Mia Khalifa will remain in the spotlight until the storm, expected to hit Lebanon this week, knocks her down. Meanwhile, the staunch loyalists of local rival parties will run to her after their fiery, political online posts have been diminished by the ongoing inter-Lebanese dialogue.
As Lebanon awaits an international agreement that would lead to the election of a new president, one of its nationals has been “democratically” elected as the most famous pornstar, hence overthrowing a seasoned American actress.
It is, definitely, nice to defeat the US…
