Sheikh Wissam Masri said Monday that he did not receive any response from Lebanese government on the demands of Islamic State, adding that the government is seeking an official document signed by the captors approving the said demands.
In an interview with Central News Agency, Masri stressed that he cooperated with General Security Chief Abbas Ibrahim but the government did officially appoint neither the Qatari mediator nor the Muslim Scholars Committee.
"The Lebanese government did not appoint anyone, that's why I decided to suspend my mediation. The Islamic State did not deny the demands because they are correct," he noted.
"I decided to suspend my efforts unless I obtain an official appointment, either from Islamic State or from the government," Masri pointed out.
Commenting on the role of Ahmad al-Fliti, Masri wished him all the luck, saying that the outcome only matters.
"But all I know that there is no contact between Fliti and Islamic State, maybe he is communicating with Nusra Front," Masri concluded.
