Security forces' most prized capture comes after more than two years of what seemed like a wild goose chase.
The General Security General Directorate arrested Saturday afternoon fugitive Salafist cleric Sheikh Ahmad al-Assir after boarding a plane at Beirut's Rafik Hariri Airport.
Al-Assir, who underwent work to his physical appearances, was dressed in a female guise and accompanied by one of his associates in attempt to flee the country unnoticed.
The two were arrested in possesion of forged passports, using fake names: Rami Abdul Rahman Talib and Khaled Sidani.
Preliminary findings suggest that al-Assir had plastic surgeries done to his face in order to deceive border inspection.
He is now reportedly under questioning by the authorities, in the presence of the public prosecutor.
