A new page of Lebanon's modern history shall be turned with the arrest of Ahmad al-Assir, however some 'residues' of the old will remain until their fate is drawn. Former pop artist Fadl Shaker is one of them.
Sources in Ain al-Helweh Palestinian camp quoted Assir's supporters shock when they heard the news of his detention.
From Youssef Hneineh, Othman Hneineh and Ahmad al-Hariri as well as Mohmad al-Ouji to Bahaaeddine Houjeir, are among Assir's main advisors who are hiding inside the notorious camp, under the protection of "Muslim Young Men" group.
The same sources noted that the detained cleric managed to keep his supporters unified unlike those of Fadl Shaker's such as Abou Massaab Baraket who opted to join the group of Assir.
Al-Akhbar daily sources recalled the initiative taken by around 30 of Shaker's supporters to hand themselves over to authorities on condition to refrain from torturing them. While Fadl Shaker, who resorted to reclusion, is still meddling to settle his legal status, some sources suggested that he is likely to surrender.
