Maronite bishop Boulos Matar says the church will take measures so as to rein the chaos that erupted at Sunday protests in Beirut.

"The solution starts by agreeing on a presidential candidate, followed by the formation of a new Cabinet and parliamentary elections," he said in a radio interview.

Matar emphasized the need maintain peaceful protests, urging security forces to exercise restraint when dealing with protesters.
