Adib Fouad Ghossein, 24, is the young inventor behind the “Smart Lamp”.
Born in Zahle, Adib attended the Lebanese American University in Jbeil to pursue a degree in Industrial Engineering.
Ghossein wasn’t your average young man. Over the course of his summer internship, Adib paid extra attention to details and observed the work place thoroughly to determine how other employees felt within their environment and how he could resolve the few issues that they seemed to be facing.
During the research period that led to his invention, Adib resorted to “Ergonomics”, or the study of people’s efficiency in their working environment.
Adib told MTV Website that he’s worn glasses his whole life and wanted to focus on employees’ eyes, two of the most important organs in the human body.
Ghossein noted that he designed the “Smart Lamp” to resolve five key issues:
- Relieves pressure off eyes
- Reduces mental stress and headaches
- Reduces discomfort
- Improves safety records in the work place
- Reduces possibility of human errors
“85 percent of information reaches the brain through the eyes, hence, losing a percentage of one’s eyesight could affect the flow and quality of data entering the brain and could potentially never be restored,” Adib told MTV Website.
Adib’s “Smart Lamp” calculates the amount of lighting needed for a particular task and is equipped with a camera and censors that enable the invention to control the amount and quality of light depending on data collected throughout an employee’s activity during work hours.
Adib dreams of manufacturing his eco and user-friendly “Smart Lamp” and hopes to head his own company someday.
Lebanese young men like Adib must be kept in Lebanon and should receive the support and funding they need from our government so as to allow this country to benefit from its youth instead of leading them towards foreign lands.
