Lebanese Forces Party Chief, Samir Geagea, said Saturday that the situation in the region is not calm, deeming that the strategic decision must be in the hands of the state alone, which ought to prevent any internal team from risking the country.
On the budget issue, Geagea said that he agrees with "citizens' opinion that some of those who are discussing the budget today were the reason for the country's status quo." However, he considered that "this talk does not help at this stage," adding, "We must all work to find a way out of the crisis."
The LF Chief reiterated his belief in the principle of accountability, stressing that "political accountability should be practiced at the ballot box, not just in courtrooms."
Geagea's words came in a chat with journalists he met during his visit to the city of Zahle in the Bekaa region which he started this morning.
"My visit to Zahle is not surprising at all...and comes naturally in light of the difficult circumstances we are all living," he said, pointing to "Zahle's symbolic essence, which stems from its location and history and people, and the way they use politics, so I consider it among a few cities where the public opinion demonstrates accountability."
Touching on the situation in the Middle East, Geagea said: "The situation is not calm, so the Lebanese state, embodied in the Lebanese government and army, must have the country's full strategic decision in its custody...and must not allow any team at home to place Lebanon at risk, since we are at a stage where no error of any kind is tolerable."
Asked about his opinion on the position of Progressive Socialist Party Leader Walid Jumblatt's recent statement regarding the Lebanese identity of Shebaa Farms, Geagea preferred to leave this subject for a later discussion. Meanwhile, he emphasized that "the alliance with PSP is deep and we agree on the substance, while details can be left for later discussion."
