Minister of Social Affairs Richard Kouyoumjian on Wednesday welcomed in his office at the Ministry a delegation of the American Task Force for Lebanon (ATFL), including its President Edward Gabriel and US Congress member Darren Lahoud.
Kouyoumjian outlined the Ministry's tasks in terms of its cooperation with social care institutions and associations concerned with people with special needs.
Discussions touched on prospects of cooperation with the US Department of Health and Humanitarian Affairs in terms of providing in-kind assistance to the Lebanese community to enhance social security in the country.
Kouyoumjian and the US delegation also discussed the general political situation and the challenges facing Lebanon, especially in light of the pressing economic and financial situation.
They also discussed the refugee issue and its impact on the host Lebanese community, with Minister Kouyoumjian stressing the need for their swift repatriation to their country.
The regional situation and the demarcation of the maritime border also featured on their talks.
