MP Samy Gemayel on Thursday called in a press conference on the government to go and leave space for the formation of “a government of neutral specialists” to gain the confidence of people.
He also addressed President Michel Aoun, saying: "Remove the August 7 team from your side."
Gemayel went on to blame today’s governmental failure on the adoption of quotas running the nation and dealing with public affairs. “Patchwork does not work anymore; what’s required is structural change."
He pointed out that "from 2015 to 2019, the state deficit increased by 50% and prices rose 14%, whilst economic growth fell to zero.”
“In recent months, growth has been negative and expenditures have increased by 26 percent in four years. The most serious is that public debt has increased by more than 25 percent,” he added.
Addressing state officials, he said, “You have adopted the salary scale and approved taxes without reforms; you have approved three destructive budgets, yet we warned of a big disaster.”
Gemayel finally saluted "every citizen expressing his rejection of the prevailing reality," affirming that "the lawyers of the Kataeb party are at the disposal of everyone will be called for an investigation."
“They ask us [Kataeb] why we didn't take to the streets? The answer is that we are choosing the right time to act as we should, but that doesn't mean that people shouldn't take to the streets to express their opinion," he said.
