Maronite Patriarch, Bechara Boutros Rahi, received on Friday the UN Resident Coordinator in Lebanon, Philippe Lazzarini, with whom he agreed on "the need to speed up the nomination of the prime minister-designate in preparation for the formation of a government as the situation needs a rescue plan."
After the meeting, Lazzarini said "we talked about the importance of maintaining a peaceful and civilized uprising so that these demonstrations can continue in the same way. I also pointed out to the Patriarch that for the past four weeks, Lebanon has certainly been an example for peaceful demonstrations. The military institution, in turn, protected this uprising... I hope the demands will be heard soon, because Lebanon needs those demands [to be fulfilled]. We can say that Lebanon is at a watershed, and there is no time to waste. There is an urgent need to restore confidence between the Lebanese and their representatives in the institutions."
