French Ambassador to Lebanon, Bruno Foucher, presided over a memorial ceremony in front of the "Monument of the Dead" at the Pine Palace in Beirut, to commemorate the 101th anniversary of the November 11, 1918 truce that ended World War I.
The ceremony was attended by the ambassadors of countries that were engaged in the war, and representatives of UNIFIL, Lebanese army and veterans.
In his delivered speech, Ambassador Foucher praised the civil and peaceful nature of the popular movement that began on October 17 in Lebanon, and hailed all the Lebanese partaking in the movement.
Foucher stressed the importance that the Lebanese politicians listen to the hopes and aspirations proclaimed by the Lebanese youth.
He also said that France strongly hopes that a new Lebanese government will see the light as soon as possible to take the necessary measures for the recovery of the Country, which is currently enduring a very worrisome economic situation.
Ambassador Foucher also paid tribute to the fallen soldiers during the World War I who sacrificed their lives for the sake of peace.
