The Ministry of Public Health reassured, in a statement on Saturday, that "the epidemiological situation in Lebanon is still in the containment stage."
"In the framework of monitoring the Coronavirus 2019 (Covid 2019), and in line with the recommendations of the World Health Organization, the Ministry of Public Health has been following up, ever since the disease outbreak, on the conditions of passengers coming from infected areas...To-date, four laboratory cases have been diagnosed in Lebanon, of which three are expatriates and the fourth is local. No death has been recorded to-date, knowing that one of the patients is an elderly and suffered from several diseases before catching the infection, and his current condition is unstable," the statement indicated.
"The expatriate cases are related to travels to Iran. As for the local case, it is linked to a suspected case coming from Iran, where the Ministry is continuing to investigate its contacts," the Ministry statement added.
It continued to affirm that "the epidemiological situation in Lebanon is still in the phase of containing this emerging virus, based on the following:
- Examining the cases, making sure of the laboratory diagnosis, identifying the contacts and following up on their conditions, whether through border crossings or through health institutions
- Commitment of citizens coming from countries where local prevalence of the disease was recorded, to apply the necessary domestic quarantine for a period of 14 days from the date of their entry into Lebanon, in addition to seeking the Rafic Hariri Governmental Hospital Emergency Unit when symptoms of illness appear (fever, cough, sore throat, sneezing or shortness in breath), noting that it is best to call the number 76/592699 before heading to the hospital."
"Japan has been added to the list of countries with a local disease prevalence, namely: China, South Korea, Singapore, Iran and Italy," the statement disclosed.
Above said, the Public Health Ministry reminded citizens of the below important steps to follow:
- Attention to hygiene, frequent washing of hands and following the etiquette of coughing
- Applying quarantine to citizens coming from countries where there has been a local spread of the virus, and not to mix with society."
"The Ministry of Public Health will continue to publish epidemiological data updates in a transparent manner," the statement concluded, urging all sides to verify any health information from the Ministry's sources and show cooperation in the measures undertaken.
