The Military Court of Cassation headed by Judge Tani Latouf, imposed a hard labor sentence of three years against hacker Elie Ghabash, convicted of the crime of fabricating a file of collaboration with the Israeli enemy against actor Ziad Itani, by creating a fake social media account allegedly owned by an Israeli user. The penalty was reduced to hard labor for a year and a half, in contrast to the ruling of the permanent military court which sentenced him to one year in prison.
The court also acquitted ISF lieutenant colonel, Suzan al-Hajj, of the crime of interfering with Ghabash in the fabrication of this file and encouraging him to do so, for lack of evidence that she had committed such a crime. Hajj was sentenced to two months' imprisonment only, for the offense of “neglecting the testimony of her superiors about the Ghabash scheme, despite her knowledge of it." This is the same punishment given by the permanent military court.
This final ruling issued by the Military Court of Cassation this evening came after a lengthy session held this Tuesday.
