The Embassy of India in Beirut organized an “International Day of Yoga” (IDY) 2021 main event at Beirut city’s prominent Sanayeh Park on June 20, 2021.
The Yoga Day, as per Common Yoga Protocol, was conducted by a number of instructors from the Art of Living and Isha Foundation. Also, other yoga schools in Lebanon participated in the event. However, in light of Covid-19, the participation was restricted to invitees only.
Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Emigrants’ Chief of Protocol, Dr. Abeer Ali, attended the event representing Vice President of Council of Ministers, Caretaker Minister of Defense and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Emigrants, HE Zeina Akar, alongside Mr. Mohamad Itani, representing the Secretary General of Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Emigrants, HE Mr. Hani Chemaitelly, as well as Mr. Haytham Sayad, Adviser, representing Beirut Governor, HE Judge Marwan Aboud.
The event was attended by approximately 100 persons. Yoga is very popular in Lebanon; it’s a practice that helps improve overall health and well being.
Forth the past 6 years, ever since the International Day of Yoga was declared by the UN in 2014, the Indian Embassy in Beirut has been organising Yoga events to mark this day. There has always been very enthusiastic participation. This year’s theme is “Yoga for Wellness” in light of the COVID-19 pandemic.
