Member of the Gas Stations Owners’ Syndicate, George Brax, on Thursday said in a statement that it was high time to get the Lebanese out of car queues, and let them return back to their homes and jobs.
“This can only be achieved by finding radical solutions the dwindling supply of gasoline in gas stations,” he added, appealing to President of the Republic, General Michel Aoun, to take all necessary and urgent decisions that secure the import of gasoline and diesel, and request their immediate implementation.
“Two main issues must be controlled; first, securing the needed bank credits for importing fuels in quantities that are sufficient for the market’s needs on a regular basis, and without delay; second, ensuring that the gasoline delivered to the local market equally reaches all stations on all Lebanese territories. Otherwise, we will not witness any progress, and our Central Bank reserves will suffer more losses,” he warned.
Brax went on to indicate that taking these decisions and finding the appropriate solution encourages expatriates to visit Lebanon in summer, not to mention salvages the tourist season — on which Lebanon relies to revitalize the economic movement after a year-long stagnation — and pumps in foreign currencies, especially fresh US dollars.
