Minister of Interior and Municipalities, Judge Bassam Mawlawi, on Thursday said via his Twitter account: “A new operation in which the security apparatuses prove their determination to combat drug smuggling to countries outside Lebanon, as the Anti-Narcotics Bureau of the Judicial Police, in cooperation with the Customs’ Anti-Drugs Branch, managed to seize about 12 tons of drugs concealed in boxes of powdered syrup (juice) en route to Sudan as a first stop over.”
He added, "Investigations are ongoing to reveal all the contents of the shipment and the circumstances of the operation."
He said, "We will spare no effort to thwart all smuggling operations and prevent harm and evil from befalling our Arab brethrens."
