Head of the General Labor Confederation Bechara Asmar announced that the body will call for a general strike nationwide on Wednesday, February 8, with the participation of the land transport sector, the independent businesses' unions, the governmental hospitals, and the teachers leagues.

Asmar's announcement followed a meeting he held with the land transport unions, chaired by Bassam Tlais, at the GLC headquarters.
