The 16th meeting of Arab Information Ministers' Executive Bureau kicked off in Kuwait on Wednesday at the invitation of the General Secretariat of the League of Arab States - the media sector.
The meeting is organized by the Kuwaiti Ministry of Information, in the presence of Arab information ministers.
The Lebanese delegation to the meeting is headed by Caretaker Minister of Information Ziad Makary, who’s attending the meeting with an accompanying delegation including MoI General Director Hassan Falha.
Delivering Lebanon's speech, Makary deemed the meeting “an affirmation of our unity and our common Arab issues.”
“Our meeting today carries many meanings, foremost of which is the priority of approaching Arab issues and challenges facing our region via joint cooperative action,” Makary said, capitalizing on the “Palestinian issue, which the Arab media does not spare an effort to shed light on.”
“As for the other issues that have been raised, the Lebanese Ministry of Information is exerting every possible effort to implement, especially on the level of combating hate speech and countering false and misleading news,” Makary added.
“Lebanon welcomes the Arab-Iranian deal initiated by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the Islamic Republic of Iran,” Makary noted, hoping that this rapprochement “will restore peace in the region and put an end to the policies of division that have cast a shadow over Arab countries, particularly Lebanon.”
“Lebanon will spare no effort to play the role of a facilitator to enhance this rapprochement, and this undoubtedly requires a Lebanese-Lebanese rapprochement that translates into the election of a new President of the Republic, with whom institutional and constitutional work will be organized, economic recovery will be activated, and relations with brotherly Arab countries will be revived,” Makary concluded.
