Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri welcomed French Presidential Envoy Jean-Yves Le Drian at the Second Presidency in Ain el-Tineh. The meeting, which included French Ambassador to Lebanon Hervé Magro, and an accompanying delegation, was also attended by Speaker Berri's advisor Dr. Mahmoud Berri, and media advisor Ali Hamdan.
Discussions reportedly centered on the general political situation in Lebanon, with a particular focus on the presidential election and the recent statements from the "Quintet Committee."
Speaker Berri expressed his gratitude for French President Emmanuel Macron's continuous efforts and the dispatch of a special envoy to Lebanon.
Moreover, Berri reaffirmed his commitment to Macron's initiative aimed at electing a new President of the Republic. He reiterated his call for unconditional consultations focused solely on the presidential election, proposing a move to the General Assembly Hall of Parliament to conduct successive voting rounds. This process, he emphasized, should continue with a list of candidates until a new President of the Lebanese Republic is elected.
