"We stand at the threshold of a major deadline, which is the formation of a new government, whilst Lebanon suffers many challenges that require swift reforms," Maronite Patriarch Bechara Rahi said in a statement after meeting with President Michel Aoun at Baabda Palace on Monday.
"The government must be up to the looming challenges and must endeavor in the service of the nation," Rahi added, calling on all political forces to unite and rise to the level of challenges, especially vis-a-vis combating corruption.
"President Aoun has confirmed that the government would represent all blocs, and we hope that the government will not be an ordinary one, but one that's capable of facing challenges," Rahi added.
He finally appealed to all the parliamentary blocs to facilitate the cabinet formation process, reiterating the fact that "the public interest must remain above any other."
