Army Commander, Joseph Aoun, pursued his official visit to Australia for the second day running, whereby he attended a reception hosted in his honor by the Minister for Defence Industry, Christopher Pyne, at the Federal Parliament building in Canberra.
Attending the reception had been General Aoun's accompanying delegation, Chief of the Australian Defence Force Marshal Mark Binskin, Lebanese Ambassador to Australia, Milad Raad, and senior Australian military officers and the Lebanese community dignitaries.
Pyne hailed the "strong relations between Lebanon and Australia," and announced the provision of a number of vehicles as part of Australian assistance to the Lebanese army.
General Aoun also met with the director of the Australian intelligence service, Duncan Luiz, and several senior military commanders in the Defense Department.
The army commander also attended a reception hosted by the Lebanese ambassador to Australia at the Embassy's headquarters.
Aoun said that the purpose of his visit to Australia is to "develop relations of cooperation between the armies of both countries and meet with the Lebanese community members."
The General added that "the people's love for the army is the strongest weapon."
