President Michel Aoun on Monday congratulated the Lebanese, in general, and the Muslims, in particular, on the occasion of Eid al-Adha, hoping the Eid would bring about further peace and wellbeing.
President Aoun urged the Lebanese to be inspired by the significant meaning of Al-Adha Eid through placing the country's supreme interests above any other narrow or personal calculation.
Aoun said the current circumstances surrounding Lebanon and the countries of the region necessitate concerted and united efforts by all to enable Lebanon to address the looming challenges and pending deadlines, most notably the formation of a new government.
The President Aoun cabled heads of Arab and Islamic countries congratulating them on al-Adha Eid, wishing them further safety, stability and prosperity.
On the other hand, Aoun tackled with his interlocutors at the Baabda palace most recent political developments, including the path of the new government formation.
Aoun welcomed outgoing British Ambassador to Lebanon, Hugo Shorter, who came on a farewell visit upon the end of his diplomatic mission in the country.
The visit was an occasion to dwell on the general situation on the domestic and regional arena, in addition to the bilateral ties.
Aoun hailed Ambassador Shorter's significant efforts during his diplomatic term in Lebanon to bolster and strengthen Lebanese-British relations in all fields, wishing him success in his new mission.
Afterwards, Aoun welcomed at the Baabda palace Lebanon's Permanent Representative to the UN, Ambassador Amal Mudallali, with whom he discussed preparations underway for his chairmanship of Lebanon's delegation to the UN General Assembly on September 22.
Discussions also covered items included on the agenda of the UN General Assembly and the ongoing deliberations in New York for the extension of the mandate of the international forces in south Lebanon, as well as other diplomatic topics.
The Head of State later met with Lebanon's Ambassador to Armenia, Maya Dagher, with whom he discussed preparations underway for his participation in the upcoming Francophone Summit to be held in Yerevan on 11 and 12 October.
Aoun also met with Lebanon's Ambassador to Syria, Saad Zakhia, with whom he discussed the displaced Syrians' dossier and the Lebanese-Syrian bilateral relations.
Among Aoun's itinerant visitors for today had been MP Estefan Doueihy, and State Prosecutor Judge Samir Hammoud.
