The International Parliament for Tolerance and Peace stressed the effective role of educational, media, cultural and learning institutions, and the empowerment of women and young people, in building peace in societies and ensuring respect for human rights and equality, regardless of race, religion, color, language or any form of discrimination.
In its second session held at the Albanian Parliament in Tirana on Sunday, the International Parliament for Tolerance emphasized the need to cultivate values of forbearance and peace-building.
"The efforts of tolerance and peace in poor and marginalized communities will bear fruit only with hard work to promote education and combat poverty, disease and hunger, as preliminary steps towards establishing a just peace in these societies," conferees underlined.
A large number of ministers, ambassadors, diplomats, heads and representatives of regional, national and international institutions and parliaments from different countries of the world attended today's session, which opened with a speech by Albanian President Ilir Meta. He affirmed his country's support for the World Council for Tolerance and Peace and its International Parliament, in wake of its fundamental contribution to cultivating moderation, openness and tolerance in the face of racism and discrimination.
"The Council and its apparatuses constitute an international podium to express the highest human values and support the efforts of tolerance and peace around the world," the Albanian President underscored.
