Head of the Free Patriotic Movement, Caretaker Minister of Foreign Affairs, Gebran Bassil, on Tuesday welcomed a “Democratic Gathering” delegation, in the presence of Caretaker Minister of Energy, Cesar Abi Khalil.
After the meeting, MP Bilal Abdallah of the Democratic Gathering said: "On behalf of the Democratic Gathering and its leader, MP Taymor Jumblatt, we held a tour de horizon on the most recent developments with Free Patriotic Movement Leader, Gebran Bassil, in the presence of Minister Cesar Abi Khalil. The meeting was very fruitful and successful because it touched on several pressing topics.”
The lawmaker went on to make clear that talks mainly focused on the cabinet-line up negotiations. “The cabinet formation process is in its final stages now that the remaining obstacles are being alleviated. I imagine that the Free Patriotic Movement and the Progressive Socialist Party share the same concern and goal to accelerate the formation of this government,” Abdallah said.
"We hope that these meetings will continue for the good of our country. We are united with the Free Patriotic Movement and with all the political forces for the resurrection of our country,” he added.
In turn, Minister Abi Khalil said that talks with the Democratic Gathering delegation had mainly touched on the country’s mounting economic issues, as well as on government and Parliament-related dossiers.
“We agreed on closer cooperation between the Free Patriotic Movement and the Progressive Socialist Party’s Democratic Gathering at the governmental level,” he added.
