Lebanon bid farewell to former MP and Minister Sami Khatib, who passed away on Saturday, in an official funeral service held in his hometown of Jeb Jennin, with Information Minister Jamal Jarrah representing both the President and Prime Minister, and MP Assem Araji representing the Parliament Speaker, in addition to scores of senior political officials, deputies, cabinet members, religious, military and popular figures.
In his word on behalf of the President and Prime Minister, Minister Jarrah eulogized the late Khatib for his valuable contributions to his nation throughout his lifetime, his great services rendered to Lebanon and his acts of courage and devotion.
"Our dear late beloved, the Honorable President of the Republic, Michel Aoun, has granted you the National Order of the Cedar of the Grand Officer rank in appreciation of your national efforts and achievements. It is my honor to present it today to your kind family and to extend my sincerest condolences...," said Jarrah.
He added: "Prime Minister Saad Hariri also conveys his deepest condolences to the noble Khatib family."
Several speeches were delivered during the funeral mourning the loss of the late al-Khatib and recalling his remarkable contributions to his nation and people. Banners were also raised in memory of the deceased and his countless merits across the streets of Jeb Jennin, West Bekaa and Rashaya.
