Saudi Shura Council delegation, currently on a first time visit to Lebanon, on Wednesday held a meeting at the Parliament with the Lebanese-Saudi Parliamentary Friendship Committee, led by former Prime Minister Tamam Salam.
The meeting took place in presence of Committee members and Saudi Ambassador to Lebanon, Walid Bukhari.
The Saudi Shura Council delegation is chaired by Council member Saleh bin Manea Al-Khalewi.
President Aoun hailed the brotherly ties between Lebanon and Saudi Arabia, heaping praise on the initiatives by the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz, towards Lebanon and the Lebanese.
Heads of the Lebanese and Saudi delegations briefed attendees on the desire of both countries to strengthen their bonds of friendship based on a long and distinguished history of brotherly cooperation in the various domains, as per a statement by the Friendship Committee.
Salam, for his part, hailed the Kingdom's ongoing historic role in supporting Lebanon in various circumstances and according care to the Lebanese working in the Kingdom.
In turn, Al-Khalewi commended Lebanon's position in support of the Kingdom's efforts to maintain Arab solidarity.
The two sides discussed the role of each committee within the framework of the laws and regulations in both countries, which will help develop cooperation in the legislative sectors of the two countries and serve the objectives of Arab solidarity and strengthen the relationship between Saudi Arabia and Lebanon.
Both sides agreed to consider this meeting as the beginning of future meetings in light of the mechanism of cooperation and coordination, with both sides determining the practical aspects of this cooperation and available opportunities in this regard.
The two sides praised the official positions of the Kingdom and Lebanon vis-a-vis Arab developments, especially in the face of all the dangers surrounding them, and the need to confront all terrorist schemes that target them, statement read.
The two parties stressed the need to achieve stability and peace in all Arab countries and achieve internal unity and prevent fighting and division, statement added.
The two sides expressed their optimism about the openness between the two countries, reflected by the visit of the delegation of the Shura Council to Lebanon, which augurs for a promising tourist movement this summer, as per statement.
