Hezbollah strongly condemned on Thursday a statement by the US Embassy in Lebanon as "blatant and impertinent interference in Lebanese internal affairs" and an "insult to the [Lebanese] state and constitutional and judicial institutions."
"The purpose of that statement is to add further complications to the current crisis," the party said.
In a statement on Wednesday, the US embassy said that "the United States supports fair and transparent judicial review without any political interference. Any attempt to use the tragic June 30 event in Qabr el-Shamoun to advance political objectives should be rejected. The US has conveyed in clear terms to Lebanese authorities our expectation that they will handle this matter in a way that achieves justice without politically motivated inflammation of sectarian or communal tensions."
Hezbollah said that such remarks were an attempt to sharpen the rift on the local Lebanese scene.
