Maronite Patriarch, Bechara Boutros Rahi, on Monday welcomed in Bkerki President of the French Economic, Social and Environmental Council, Patrick Bernasconi, accompanied by the President of the Lebanese Economic and Social Council, Charles Arbid, and Diplomatic Advisor, Michael Christophe.
Talks focused on the need to activate the economy cycle in Lebanon through implementing the required reforms because "the time factor now threatens any possible progress in this regard."
Speaking in the wake of the meeting, Bernasconi hailed the historic and significant ties between France and Lebanon, saying the visit underlines the need for the implementation of reforms in the country.
Bernasconi expressed confidence that the Lebanese citizens shall be able to find solutions that will yield good results through the implementation of the CEDRE Conference, which helps Lebanon find ways to prosper and grow, as he said.
The French official added that his talks with the Patriarch dwelt on the issue of civil society, its role in Lebanon and its relation with politics.
"We exchanged views on this subject, and the difficulties encountered by Lebanon and the solutions in this regard," he said.
Bernasconi stressed that reforms must be implemented with absolute confidence and "this is in the interest of the country," he concluded.
