Caretaker Minister of Energy and Water, Nada Boustani, on Monday extended the deadline for submitting tenders to import gasoline to December 9.
"We received two offers to participate in the gasoline tender and two demands to delay it. We decided to push the deadline one week until forthcoming Monday to pave way for more competition," Boustani told a press conference at the headquarters of Lebanon's Oil Installations in Hazmieh.
"We are still carrying on with the tender; the postponement only aims to enhance competition," she explained.
Boustani also indicated that pressure had been exerted on oil importing companies for the past 48 hours, but stressed that contacts had no relation to politics.
She also called upon companies to deliver gasoline to all stations nationwide, especially Al-Aytam.
