A man in his mid-fifties attempted to commit suicide at Riad El-Solh Square in Downtown Beirut on Saturday evening, by pouring gasoline on his body and then setting himself on fire.
Protesters in the Square hurried to throw blankets on the man to save him, after which he was rushed by the Lebanese Red Cross to Geitaoui Hospital for medical treatment, where it was reported that he suffered moderate burns to his legs.
The man was threatening since morning to burn himself, until he decided to carry out his threat this evening.
