Mohammed Mustafa, the Palestinian prime minister, has spoken by phone to France’s foreign minister, after a UN Security Council vote earlier this week on Palestine’s UN membership status.
According to the Palestinian Wafa news agency, Mustafa thanked France’s Stephane Sejourne for the country’s “principled” vote in favour of full Palestinian membership at the UN, although the resolution ultimately failed due to the US’s veto.
Mustafa added that “it is time for Palestine to take its rightful place among the countries of the world”, reported Wafa.
The two ministers also spoke about boosting bilateral ties and the Palestinian government’s need for additional support amid the unfolding “humanitarian catastrophe” in Gaza, Wafa added.
