President Michel Aoun presided Tuesday afternoon over a security meeting at Baabda Palace to discuss the denounced terrorist attack which took place last night in Tripoli.
Aoun stressed that confronting terrorism is a continuous task of the security and military forces, requiring vigilance and constant readiness. He emphasized the significance of coordination, cooperation and exchange of information between the various security apparatuses and called for intensified security monitoring of suspects and proactive action, whenever necessary.
The meeting was attended by Interior and Municipalities Minister Raya El Hassan, National Defense Minister Elias Bou Saab, Army Commander General Joseph Aoun, ISF Director General Major General Imad Othman, Director of Army Intelligence Brigadier General Tony Mansour and Head of Information Branch Brigadier General Khaled Hammoud.
The President began the meeting by expressing his deepest condolences to the families of the fallen martyrs as a result of the tragic incident. He then briefed the attendees on the details of the terrorist attack that befell the people of Tripoli and all of Lebanon on the eve of Eid al-Fitr, in wake of the information made available to the Army and Internal Security Forces and the preliminary investigations into the circumstances of the attack, which revealed a background of vengeance against the army and security forces.
President Aoun requested that exceptional security measures be taken to keep pace with the holidays and the summer season.
