Sidon, the capital of the South, registered a record number of participants in the second international marathon in the region, with 30,000 runners partaking from different regions, compared to 18,500 participants in the first marathon in 2017. Sunday's marathon was distinguished by the large and varied participation in terms of areas and ages, with professional athletes joining from a number of Arab and foreign countries.
Under the slogan of, "We Run for a Peaceful Environment," the race was organized by Sidon's International Marathon Association, in coordination with the Municipality of Sidon, the Lebanese Federation of Athletics and "The Planner", under the patronage of Prime Minister Saad Hariri, represented by Future Bloc Head, MP Bahiya Hariri.
In her delivered word on the occasion, MP Hariri described the event as a "day of peace for all of Lebanon," dedicating the success of this marathon to PM Hariri, who was unable to join due to special circumstances. "This is an important achievement for the city of Sidon as a whole...We have large areas that bring us together and this is a space of joy from Sidon to all of Lebanon. We have hope for the country and its youth...!"
"We want to promote the country. This message is the first step initiated by PM Saad Hariri to say that Lebanon can overcome the crises it is experiencing through its citizens and their integration," Hariri added, stressing that "together we can create a success story every day."
