Presidential spokesperson Najat Charafeddine announced that, in line with his constitutional oath and powers to safeguard Lebanon’s sovereignty, territorial integrity, and higher national interests, President Joseph Aoun has decided, after coordination and consultations with Speaker Nabih Berri and Prime Minister Nawaf Salam, to appoint former ambassador and lawyer Simon Karam to head the Lebanese delegation to the meetings of the Military Technical Committee for Lebanon, established under the “Cessation of Hostilities Declaration” of 27 November 2024.
This decision follows the U.S. administration’s efforts as chair of the committee and after the American side confirmed Israel’s approval to add a civilian member to its delegation. Karam will participate in the committee’s session scheduled today, 3 December 2025, in Naqoura.
