A statement was issued by US Ambassador Michel Issa as follows:
“With utmost respect, I express my appreciation to the government and people of Lebanon for the warm welcome they extended to His Holiness Pope Leo XIV during his recent visit. The professionalism and unity displayed in preparing for and hosting this historic event reflect the spirit of Lebanon and its ability to rise above challenges when the moment calls for it.
I also commend both Lebanon and Israel for taking the courageous decision to open a channel of dialogue at this sensitive time. This step signals a sincere desire to pursue peaceful and responsible solutions grounded in good faith. Meaningful progress can only be achieved when both sides feel that their concerns are respected and their hopes acknowledged. Consensus, understanding, and principled leadership remain essential.
I further welcome the Lebanese government’s decision to adopt dialogue after decades of uncertainty. This represents a constructive step toward identifying pathways that may one day allow both countries to coexist in peace, respect, and dignity.
As the United States Ambassador to Lebanon, I reaffirm our commitment to supporting all efforts that promote peace, stability, and security. The United States stands ready to engage in and assist with initiatives that ease the burden on people who have endured profound physical and emotional hardship, suffering that no society should ever have to face.”
